2009 Summer Xiamen, China Exchange Program
This is the 1st exchange program to China organized by the Jesuit Secondary Education Association (JSEA)! Last summer year, we had ten Xiamen students visiting us and they were toured around the nation. Xiamen is south of China and is rated one of the most beautiful and clean cities in China.
This program is only for current juniors. We have seven seats available. SI participants will join juniors from other Jesuit high schools around the nation.
Sketch of the program
- Meet in Hong Kong on July 12, 2009 (with time difference, and depending on departure time, it may mean depart SF on July 11)
- Sight-seeing in Hong Kong on July 13
- Travel to Xiamen on July 14 and stay at School #1 or #6 (live in dorms. These are top schools in the city), attend classes (Chinese culture, language, history, painting, calligraphy and martial arts) and visit local sites with possible home visits
- Travel to Xi’an on July 22 (visit Terra Cotta Warriors, hot springs, history museum and Wild Goose Pagoda)
- Travel to Beijing on July 25 (visit Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Great Wall, Ming Tombs, Summer Palace, National Museum, Bird’s Nest and Water Cube)
- Travel to Hong Kong on July30 and return home
- 3 weeks total
- During traveling time, the group will stay in hotels (3-4 star ranking) and all tours will have local English speaking guides
Cost
The cost estimate is around $2,000 plus roundtrip Hong Kong airfare and daily incidentals. Cost includes:
- room, board and transportation in China
- Airfare to and from HK -- JSEA is searching for the best group rate
- Chaperone – SI will provide 1 chaperone and there will be 4chaperones from other Jesuit high schools
