Arthur Mario Banchero June 2, 1925 ~ Nov. 7, 2009 Passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on November 7, 2009 in Sacramento. He was 84 years old. Loving and devoted husband for 59 years of Mary McLaughlin, father of John (Diane) Banchero, Maureen (Van) Longyear, and Lynn (Robert) Zakskorn, and loving grandfather to John (Angela), Michael (Danielle) and Kate Longyear; Mary Kate and John Banchero, and Jacqueline Zakskorn. Born in San Francisco, Art was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School '43, and the University of San Francisco '49. After joining the Army in 1943, Art served in the European and Pacific theaters in WWII. After the war, Art joined Wesix Electric Company and transferred to Sacramento to represent Wesix in Northern California, Oregon and Washington. In 1962, with his business partner, Archie Crossland, Art purchased Bonney & Gordon Men's Store, and together they developed the premier men's clothing store in Sacramento. At its height, Bonney & Gordon operated three stores in Sacramento and one in Carmel. Art was a founding member and served on the Parish council of St. Ignatius Parish and School. He was a board member for Hanna School for Boys and Loretto High School. He was an active member of the Arden Arcade Rotary, Spyglass Hill Golf Club and Del Paso Country Club, where he also served as a Director and President. An avid golfer, Art enjoyed countless hours on the golf course and at the Long Table with his cherished friends. Throughout his life, Art was a valued advisor, successful fundraiser and generous supporter of Jesuit High School where he also served as trustee and as chairman of the board. Art was beloved for his kindness, quick wit and sense of humor. He was known to his friends, business associates and family as a man who led by example with dignity and integrity. Of all his accomplishments, Art was proudest of his family and will rest well knowing that the love he gave and the values he instilled will live long after his passing. He left the world a better place for his time with us, and he will be forever remembered and sorely missed. To celebrate his life, friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church on Arden Way, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Jesuit High School Chapel Fund, 1200 Jacob Lane, Carmichael, CA 95608, or the charity of your choice.
